1) Provide an outline of what the video is about

It is about a 16 year old boy and how video game addiction has torn his family apart. The video game that the 16 year old boy has started to play is “Counterstrike”. His family has become concerned that he is paying to much attention to the game instead of other important things like schoolwork and family time. His parents are also concerned about the violence that the game has as it is possible that it could become realistic. The parents have done everything they can just to stop him from playing the game but it isn’t working. Some examples of what they had done was that they had tried to bribe him with broadband internet but that didn’t work, they took his computer away but he would then stay out late at other people’s houses just to play this game, and they tried limiting his game time but it still didn’t work. His parents have talked to other concerned parents about it and they all have the same problem. What the boy’s parents have decided to do was allow him and his mates to compete in a “Counterstrike” competition which they all had to take their own computers and whoever won got a prize. The 16 year olds father gives $80 to his 13 year old friend to road test them and he goes to different stores to purchase M17+ games and never once was asked what his age was.

2) What would you have done if you were the parents?

If I was his parents I would throw the computer out and dispose of everything and ground him for life so that he couldn’t go out and see his friends. I would also have limited his time limit and if he got angry about it then I would just tell him that parents and schoolwork is more important than a video game.

3) Is it a concern that this might happen to either you or someone you know (video game addiction)? Explain

Yes, I am concerned that someone close to me has become a video game addict. If it was a killing game, I would be so concerned that it would become realistic and then they would get ideas and do what they do on the game and could most likely get killed. They then don’t worry about the real world that they live in: they are worried about the virtual world that they now are considered to be living in.

4) In your opinion are video games addictive in a dangerous way?

Yes, as people can be turned against each other with the amount of time that they are playing video games and then they would have no time to do schoolwork or spend with family: all they are worried about is that they have to play games to get their mind of things. But then again it depends on what time of game that the person is playing and how many times that they have played it already. If they have played it more than a few times then you could consider it being addictive and possibly dangerous.

today is DOOM DAY!!!!! yes DOOM DAY as it is end of assessment and the teachers then work out our grade. sometimes i hate DOOM DAY as sometimes i think that i will fail some subjects but i try hard to get good grades. i found out my grade for IT and i am on 104%!!!!! everyone keeps asking me how i do it and i just say that i dont know how i do it… it just happens but anyway…. its just weird. im like the highest in the class and everyone else is like below me… im very proud of myself!!!!!!!!! i cant believe it. im so happy. Mr Kerr asked if i was happy and i was like hell yeah!!!!

ok, i better go because DOOM DAY is drawing to a end. and then next week: Assessment 2 begins and thats not good coz we dont even get a break we just go from one to the next. oh well

Problem

You have to hit a character 3 times with a bullet before it dies.

Solution

this one was really strange (well for me anyway) so i dont know what happened but this did happen so oh well… tough luck.

it would be easy to start from problem 4 but if you want to start from scratch be my guest. if you are starting from scratch, you should do problem 4 first then while you still have problem 4 open then you can do problem 8. but i will show you what i have done. i did problem 4 again because i did problem 4 at school and i did problem 8 at home: so you get the picture. ill start by doing problem 4 just for you.

 Problem 4- setting the movement

*go to "add sprite" or do Ctrl+Alt+S and get a character and then do the same to get a little bullet.

*then go to "add object" or Ctrl+Alt+O and then click on the little menu thing that pops up on the side and choose the character.

*go to "add event" and then "key press" choose "left". drag over the 8 red arrows known as "start moving in a direction" and click on the "left" key only and set your speed. dont tick relative.

* go to "add event" and then "key press" choose "right". drag over the 8 red arrows known as "start moving in a direction" and click on the "right" key only and set your speed. dont tick relative.

*while you are doing the "left" and "right" you might as well do the "space" one. go to "add event" and then "key press" choose "space". drag over the lightbulb known as "create instance of an object" and click on the "menu" key and choose the bullet and tick the relative box

Test this by putting your character in your room and then playing it by moving left and right.

to make your character stop when the key has been released do the following:

*go to "add event" and click on "key release" and choose the "left" key. then drag over the 8 red arrows known as "start moving in a direction" and when the menu appears, press the "Stop" key and keep the speed at 0.dont tick relative

* go to "add event" and click on "key release" and choose the "right" key. then drag over the 8 red arrows known as "start moving in a direction" and when the menu appears, press the "Stop" key and keep the speed at 0. dont tick relative.

when you have done the character, do the bullet.

*open up your "bullet" object and when the pop up appears, click on "add event" and click "create".

*in the "move" tab, drag over "set the vertical speed" and put a negative in front of it which will make it shoot upwards. click "ok" and not the "relative" button. now test it to see if you can shoot and move. (ill put a picture of problem 4 at the bottom as well of moving left, right and shooting)

Problem 8-hitting the "enemy"

open up your problem 4 game that you have either just done or your previous one and you can do problem 8.

*create your "enemy" object by doing "add sprite" or Ctrl+Alt+S and choose your enemy. then do your creating of an "object".

*open up your "enemy" object, and when the pop up appears, click on "create" event and then go into the "score" tab and drag over "set the number of lives" and when the menu appears, type "3" in the new lives and dont tick relative.

*go to "add event" again and when the menu appears, click on "Step" and choose the first one. drag over "if lives is a value" over and when the pop up appears, keep defaults the same.

*go into the "control" tab and drag over the "blocks"

*in between the "blocks"  go into the main1 tab, and drag "change the instance" and change it into the "object explosion" that you should have!!! and have the bottom as "yes". click "ok".

*go to "add event" and click on "collision" choose object "bullet"

*go back into the "score" tab and drag "set the number of lives" and when the popup appears, type "negative 1" in the new lives and tick the "relative" box then "ok". you can delete "change instance into explosion" (i accidentally forot to write that part in the top, oh well)

*test your game to see if it works, hopefully it does. if it doesnt, go onto pikmiks blog and see how he done it, coz i followed his instructions so…

i have fixed my dilemma thanks to Mr Kerr and his easy explanation on how to fix it so im quite happy that i have fixed it and now my blogroll is back to normal and it only has one "gamedesign11" instead of 2. so im happy about that. i have like 41 entries so far and we are into week 9 of term 1. only a couple more weeks then HOLIDAYS WOO HOO!!!!!! no school 4 2 weeks. and my birthday is in 20 dayz so i am now counting down the days so i can then turn another year older. thatz all 4 now as i have 2 go and do some work, but im not behind so i dont see why i have to do work. but hey before i go im on 96% in IT so IM PASSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am like so totally bored coz like i am w8ing 4 pikmik 2 help me do problem 8 coz like it aint workin properly since i done it but i thought i would get his help so then i only have to do 2 more questionz coz i have done sum @ home and i had 2 do sum at school because this is where i keep most of them. anyway, itz a hot day 34 degrees, sitting in IT where the air con doesnt even blow to us so it feels as though i am melting into a puddle (actually no, i just made that up for an excuse) everyone over the otherside gets the aircon while we all suffer from heat stroke but no-one cares about us, that is so depressing…. if we ask mr kerr…… we will c wat he has 2 say…. hopefully he does care about us……. we (angdig, gamedesign and myself) have just sent hackthrough a comment and we are w8ing 4 him 2 read it…… oh well he shuld read it soon enough….. i am like so bored, nuthin 2 do… still cant do ne work coz pikmik aint here yet still w8ing 4 him 2 help me…. well it is just another boring day in the life of blank4aname, not much has been happening lately only the fact that it is nearly end of assessment and every teacher wants work every single day of the week…. its starting to annoy me… as soon as i finish i assignment, they give me another one then a few days later i get another one without even finishing the previous one that they had just given me. i spose thats what you get being in Year 11 and SENIOR SCHOOL. Senior school is so much better than being in year 8,9 and 10 but since i am in year 11 it is so much better… you get supervised study lessons where you can most probably sit and do absolutely nothing but sometimes you can get into trouble but hey…. not my problem… i am the good one, i do my work or sit and talk and eat CHOCOLATE mmmm chocloate… speaking of which i want some chocolate… might have to get some later on after i have been to the doctors. if you want to know something im on a B for IT so i better start working hard to get to my goal of an A. so instead of me writing rubbish i better get on with my work and get the last few problems of the challenge over and done with. so i better go now.

here is problem 10 coz like i have done the following as you may know but i am doing problem 8 at school because that is where i have my problem 4 for that task so i thought i would do 10,11 and 12 at home so i can do 8 at school so itz quicker and easier so here it is:

Problem

A character jumps up off a platform, and return under the influence of gravity – you cannot jump from midair.

Solution

*go to “add sprite” or do the cheat way Ctrl+Alt+S and choose yourself a character and a platform.

*go to “add object” or do the cheat way Ctrl+Alt+O. do your character first.

 Step

*go to “add event” and click on “step” and choose the first one. go to the “control” tab and drag over the “if a position is collision free”. when that appears, keep the “x” value default and change the “y” value to 1 keep the “objects” part default and tick the “relative” box and click “ok”.

*go into the “move” tab and drag over the 2 blue arrows that follow each other known as “set the gravity” and in the “direction” part, write 270 and the “gravity” to 1. dont tick the “relative” box just click “ok”

*go into the “control” tab again, and this time drag the “else” button over, that is all you have to do.

*go back into the “move” tab and drag “set the gravity” over again, and like we did with the previous step, where it has “direction” type 270 and where the gravity is keep it default. click “ok” only.

*go back into the “control” tab and drag over the “if a variable has a value”. when the menu appears, where it has “variable” type “vspeed”. where it has “value” type 12 and keep the bottom as default. click ok

YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE “STEP EVENT”

Keypress

*go into “add event” and click on “keypress”. when the menu appears, click on the “up”.

*hopefully, you are still in the “control” tab and this time drag over “if there is a collision at a position”. when the menu appears, have ”x” as default and change “y” to 1 and keep the “objects” part default, and tick the “relative” box and click “ok”.

*go back into the “move” tab and drag “set the vertical speed” over and type in the “vert. speed” part -15, tick “relative” then “ok”

YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE “KEYPRESS”

i needed no help with this task but i used Maxymous’s blog for guidance, i wrote my own solution, i just looked at his blog for guidance on how to do it. i followed his steps closely and i hope i got it right for my sake.

I will start it from scratch for you as this is home i did it at home, i did it from scratch and if people say im stupid then so be it… i left my sheet so i did it from scratch.

*go to “add sprite” or Ctrl+Alt+S

*choose a character and a bullet, i didnt use an enemy.

*go to “add objects” or Ctrl+Alt+O

*do your bear first, go to “add event” and then “create”. go into the “control” tab and drag “set the value of a variable”. where it has “variable” type “canshoot” and in the “value” type 1. click ok

*go to “add event” and click on “alarm” and choose the first one on the top, Alarm0. drag “set the value of a variable” over and where it has the “variable” type canshoot and where it has “value” type 1. click ok

*go into “add event” and choose “keypress”. in the “control” tab, drag “if a variable has a value” over and where it has “variable” type “canshoot”, set the value to 1, and keep the bottom as default.

*drag the “start” and “end” blocks over to the “actions”.

*go into the “main1″ tab and drag “create an instance of an object” and where it has “object” choose the bullet and keep the rest default, tick the “relative” box and then click “ok”

*next, go back into the “set the value of a variable” and in the “variable” type “canshoot” and where it has “value” keep it as 0. click ok

*go into the “main2″ and drag “set an alarm clock”. in “number of steps” type 30 and keep the bottom as Alarm0. click ok, dont click relative.

*now add your character into the room and then practice your game.
